October 16, 2006 the Alexander Valley Winegrowers announced that the Alexander
Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA) has been named Wine Region of the Year
by Wine Enthusiast Magazine, receiving one of the ten prestigious Wine Star
Awards for 2006. Selected for its outstanding contribution to the world of wine
overall and with special attention to achievements in the year 2006, Alexander
Valley was one of five nominees and the only Viticultural area to represent the
United States. Among Alexander Valley's growing diversity of wines and grapes
grown, Cabernet Sauvignon is achieving world-class stature, giving Napa Valley a
run for its money.
